What is Float Therapy?

Floatation therapy, also known as sensory deprivation, is a unique form of meditation where you float effortlessly in a light- and sound-proof tub filled with salt water that’s the same temperature as your skin. It’s not only great for relaxation but also offers a range of mental and physical benefits. A single float cabin will typically have over 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt. The magnesium in the Epsom salts helps relax muscles, improve skin, and reduce inflammation, while the near-weightless environment promotes deep relaxation and stress reduction. For your mind, floatation therapy can reduce anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and even boost creativity and focus.

Physically, it can help with chronic pain, accelerate muscle recovery (making it popular with athletes!), and even lower blood pressure. Some people even fall asleep during their float session due to how calming the environment is. Veterans, in particular, have seen improvements in managing PTSD, anxiety, and chronic pain. It’s a peaceful, restorative experience that can help you tune into your body and mind in a way regular meditation sometimes can’t achieve.

Floating is such a unique, individualized experience, and no two floats are ever the same. At Sukhino Float Center, we offer 3 Wave Room style float cabins. Each guest will shower before their session, and then you’ll open a glass door and step into a large cabin, like a walk-in closet. You can stand near the entry while the ceiling slopes down in a wave pattern (that’s where the name comes from!)  towards the back. You lie back in about 10 inches of skin-temperature salt water, loaded with about 1100 pounds of Epsom salt. It's saltier than the Dead Sea, and it's so dense, you float without any effort at all! You can choose to have the lights on or off, music on or off, and you just let yourself rest. It's a relief for the body, mind, and spirit, and sometimes it takes practice to "drop in", but once you do, there's simply nothing else like it.
